Wet and dry combined standpipe systems are a versatile fire protection solution, offering both hose connections and automatic sprinklers within a single integrated system. While these systems require firefighter intervention to connect hoses and introduce water manually, dry systems are indispensable in environments where freezing temperatures are a concern.

Wet and dry standpipe systems require both yearly and quarterly (if not monthly) inspection and maintenance practices. This involves a visual inspection of gauges and system readiness. These systems also require a fire pump and flow test to check that there is enough pressure for effective system deployment. Standpipe systems also require routine 5-year standpipe inspections, in which a section of pipe is removed to check for corrosion and blockages.

Clean agents, including FM200, are halocarbons or inert gases that work by interrupting the chemical chain reactions of a fire and acting as a coolant. Dry chemical systems discharge a fine powder that blankets the fire, interrupting the combustion process and suppressing flames. These fire suppression agents come in two primary forms: sodium bicarbonate and mono-ammonium phosphate. Sodium bicarbonate is effective against Class B fires (flammable liquids and gases) and some Class C fires (energized electrical equipment). On the other hand, mono-ammonium phosphate is an all-purpose solution used for fires in Classes A (ordinary combustibles), B, and C.
